If you are native hindi speaker, and would like to chat with your family and friends on Facebook in the same language. You can very well do so using the ways described in this article below.

Facebook does not offer any option to type in hindi. But with some tricks you can easily type in hindi as well as other native indian languages. Here are some ways of doing the same –

Note: The following ways will also work for any other website on the Internet.

1. Using Google Translator

Translate your english text into hindi using the awesome google translator. After doing the translation, copy paste the translated hindi text on Facebook anywhere you would like to put it – status, comments, etc.

2. Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool

This tool converts English characters to the characters used in Hindi. This lets you type Hindi words phonetically in English script and then have them appear in Hindi. Note that this is not the same as translation (what google translator does) – it is the sound of the words that are converted from one alphabet to the other, not their meaning. For example, typing “Namaste” transliterates into Hindi as “नमस्ते”.

It also supports other native Indian languages such as – Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu.

How to use it?

Open the Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool, start typing in English and hit Space after each word. The word will convert to hindi as you press the space key. Click on a word to see more options – similar words and access to Visual Keyboard.

3. Google Transliteration Bookmarklets

This is by far the best and the quickest way. Just click on the bookmarklet stored in your browser toolbar and you are ready to type in hindi on any website you want.
